Top Twelve

Things I've learned this year (in no particular order):

  1. You don't know it all. But nobody does, so don't sweat it. (But do keep learning!)
  2. Sometimes the scenic route is the best, in Talmud and in life.
  3. The person in front of you is the most important person in the world.
  4. Labels are for jars.
  5. My pshat is your drash, and my drash is your pshat.
  6. Pause and notice the world around you. It's unbelievable what we miss when we're not looking.
  7. Ask questions. Lo ha'baishan lomed ("The shy one cannot learn").
  8. Learn everything in its context. There are at least two sides to every story.
  9. Breathe. It can put everything into perspective.
  10. People will often surprise you.
  11. If you don't push, you're not getting on the bus. Or anything at the shuk.
  12. Go with the flow. Yihiyeh beseder :)
